Potvin could challenge Jenkins for mayor; candidates seeking nominations
AUBURN — Incumbents and a handful of challengers have stepped forward to fill opening seats on the Auburn City Council.
All seven city councilors and Mayor John Jenkins are passing petitions trying to guarantee a spot on the November ballot, according to City Clerk Mary Lou Magno. Nominating petitions for mayor, City Council and School Committee seats became available Monday. In all, 11 have taken out nomination papers.
They have until Aug. 20 to collect signatures and secure a spot on the ballot.
At-large City Councilor Ron Potvin could try to unseat Mayor Jenkins. Potvin has taken out papers for the mayor's job, but not for his current at-large seat.
Bob Mennealy, at-large councilor, is seeking a second term as well. Former Ward 3 Councilor Eric Samson is the only person currently seeking the city's second at-large seat.
In Ward 1, Councilor Mike Farrell and Richard Francoeur, 147 Broadview Ave. are passing petitions for a seat. In Ward 2, incumbent Robert Hayes is seeking another term. Ward 3's Dan Herrick and Jaric Fontaine, 87 Western Ave. are passing petitions for that seat, and Ward 4's David Young is passing petitions to seek another term. Ward 5's Ray Berube is passing petitions to seek re-election as well.
Ward 2 School Committee member Bonnie Hayes and incumbent at-large members David Das and Francois Bussiere are all passing petitions.
Candidates for the mayor's job each need to collect 100 signatures. Candidates for the City Council and School Committee each need to collect 25 signatures. All candidates will have until Aug. 20 to collect their signatures.
Candidates for the at-large positions, including those for mayor, two at-large City Council positions and two at-large School Committee positions, can collect signatures from registered voters living anywhere in the city. Candidates for the ward seats must collect signatures from residents of their wards.
Auburn's municipal election is scheduled for Nov. 3.

If you have not noticed, everything I’ve listed is a growth in the size of government, a growth in government spending or a program in crisis.
A tax cut does not belong in that list. While a tax cut may grow the size of the national debt, a tax cut does not necessarily grow the size of government nor does it increase spending.
Moreover, you selectively forgot to add your favorites, Bill Clinton and Obama, to your list of tax cutting presidents. Any reason why? Maybe your Cuban pharmacist is giving you placeboes!
