FRYEBURG — For the second year, Fryeburg Academy will host the Maine Bike Rally as a focal point for dozens of rides through western Maine and the White Mountains.

The rally, in its 21st year, will take place from July 12 to July 14. More than 35 rides, ranging in length from 5 to 100 miles, will be offered to bicyclists. In addition, the event will include music, movies, a bike parade and an ice cream social.

Campers are allowed to use the Fryeburg Academy grounds to set up tents, and a "Best Dressed Campsite" award will be presented on Saturday. The winner of the award will receive free admission for two to next year's rally.

All riders under the age of 18 will be accompanied by an adult. Helmets are required and pets are not allowed. A support vehicle will accompany rides of 50 miles or longer.

The event attracted over 700 cyclists from the United States and Canada last year.

Thanks to the sponsor  L.L. Bean, bicyclists from the Maine towns of Bridgton, Brownfield, Denmark, Fryeburg, Lovell, Stow and Sweden may take part in the rides for free. Residents of Bartlett, Chatham, Center Conway, East Conway, North Conway, Glen, Jackson and Intervale in New Hampshire may also ride for free. An additional cost will apply if local riders wish to camp at the school or take part in the meals.

Adult registration for the full event ranges in price from $100 for members of the Maine Bicycle Coalition to $120 for non-members. Single-day registration for Saturday is $65 for members and $75 for non-members, while single day registration for Sunday is $35 for members and $40 for non-members. Discounts are also available for volunteers at the event.
