Rebelling against God

Opponents of gay marriage quote the Bible in support of their case. However, supporters of gay marriage can play that game, too.

In Romans 13:1-2, the Bible reads, "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves."

Therefore, according to the Bible, Gov. John Baldacci and the rest of the Maine government were established by God to pass the law legalizing same-sex marriage. If you rebel against this law, you are rebelling against God.

When man's laws disagree

When man's laws disagree with God's laws, believers have an moral obligation to obey God rather than man. (see Acts 5:29 for starters. The book of Daniel also teaches this.)

The scriptures in this

The scriptures in this letter are part of a lesson on authority. Taken out of context, they could be misunderstood. In their entirety, they say basically that God's authority is over all other. Those in authority on earth are to rule according to God's authority, and if they rule against His authority they will bring God's judgment upon themselves.
God didn't vote our Governor into office. People did. God didn't sign gay marriage into law. The Governor did. Now the people have the opportunity to vote to keep it in or rule it out. We were given this authority. We should use it wisely, according to God's authority.

Your god does not run this

Your god does not run this country; the people do.

There you go, gdls1, and if

There you go, gdls1, and if people run it against God's authority they bring judgment upon themselves (according to Scripture). If you don't believe the Bible you can choose to disregard this.

There you go, Jami: There

There you go, Jami: There are many people in this country who do not believe as you do. And this country is not a religious state.

Your Jesus is not the Jesus

Your Jesus is not the Jesus of the Bible.

Check out the book of John. "1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning." and in verse 14 "14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." The Word the apostle John speaks of is Jesus.

Jesus taught that he did not come to abolish the Law and the Prophets (the Old Testament) but to fulfil them (Matthew 5:17 & 18) and that every word, including the punctuation, is important. Yes, Jesus preached a message of love, but he also preached "Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand." He was not afraid to label sin as sin. He also taught more about hell than any other biblical teacher. And then there is the passage in Matthew chapter 10, specifically verses 34 to 42. It starts out "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."

You cannot just pick and choose which of Jesus's teachings you wish to believe and throw out the rest. My challenge to you would be to pick up a copy of the New Testament and read the gospel accounts for yourself. There is a whole lot more to Jesus teaching than "love one another".
