Court-Menendez, Dunn capture national titles

WALTHAM, Mass. - Lewiston's Nicole Court-Menendez and Auburn's Abby Dunn celebrated titles Sunday in theNational 1-Hour Race Walk Championship on the campus of Bentley College.

Court-Menendez, a sophomore at Lewiston High School, won her first junior national title by walking 9,859 meters in one hour, an improvement of 879 meters from last year. In addition to the title in her age bracket, Court-Menendez placed fourth overall.

Dunn was the second-ranking junior and fifth overall at 9,705 meters, a gain of 837 meters from last fall.

Court-Menendez and Dunn teamed with Lauren Forgues of Boothbay to capture the national team title for the second year in a row.

Dirigo student places third in Boston Half-Marathon

BOSTON - Nicholas Young of Carthage was the third-ranking junior in the recent Boston Half-Marathon. His time of 1:31.21 was 206th overall out of approximately 2,000 runners.

Young, 14, is a freshman football and baseball player at Dirigo High School.
