Clash leads to charges, injuries
FARMINGTON - Livermore teenagers clashed with a group of Farmington-area teenagers July 4, resulting in two boys being charged with underage drinking and a girl getting injured after a car backed into her legs, police said.
A few Livermore youths came up to the park-and-ride lot next to Rite Aid on Route 4 late Saturday evening and had a little disagreement with some from Farmington, Farmington police officer David Galvan said Tuesday.
It started out as a verbal dispute and later turned into physical fighting, he said.
The Livermore youths left and then a cell phone call was made and both sides agreed to meet at the Red Sox baseball field off Route 4 near the Sandy River bridge in the Fairbanks section of Farmington, Galvan said.
That's when the altercation turned physical and a fistfight began, Galvan said. There was maybe a total of 15 kids there, Galvan said, but he didn't know if they were all fighting.
The Livermore kids attempted to leave and the car they were in crashed into one of the bleachers and messed up a door on the car, he said.
Someone called police about 11:15 p.m. and reported the incident. Farmington police, Franklin County Sheriff's Department and University of Maine at Farmington Police Department all responded to the site. They caught up with the car from Livermore at the Fairbanks Neighborhood School Meeting House south of the field.
A teenage girl from Franklin County was injured when the car the Livermore kids were in backed up after the accident and struck her legs, Galvan said. Her legs were bruised and she was later taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington by private vehicle, he said.
Both sides blamed the other side, Galvan said, with the only difference being there were more Farmington area witnesses.
There were some bruises from fighting, he said.
It is unclear what they were fighting about but it is still under investigation.
Police issued a summons to a 17-year-old Livermore boy on charges of possession of liquor by a juvenile or minor, possession of a concealed weapon and sale and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police found a set of brass knuckles and some drug paraphernalia, Galvan said.
A 15-year-old Livermore boy was also charged with possession of liquor by a juvenile or minor, he said.

Did You know Livermore was once called Port Royal before some narcisstic general named Livermore settled there and named the area after himself. After the French-Indian War against the British, who were invading the colonies along the Maine coast when it was still called Massachusettes, many of the French settled in the Livermore area and called their settlement Port Royal. They ran timber down the Androscoggin before the paper mills were built and did alot fishing and trapping for the fur trade. They were from Port Royal, Nova Scotia before they sailed to Maine (Mass.) to fight with Penobscots, Abinakis, and other Indian tribes against the British. Makes you wonder what General Livermore and his gang did to the original settlers from Port Royal. Change the name back to what it was. How can anyone like a town that starts with Liver? Yuk!
