Where's freedom of choice?

Published on Sunday, Oct 18, 2009 at 3:03 am | Last updated on Sunday, Oct 18, 2009 at 3:03 am 27 Comments

In response to Pamela Matzinger's letter, "No more Spaghetti" (Oct. 11), let me say that one good thing about spaghetti in this country is I have the right to choose whether or not to eat it (and I like spaghetti). Obviously, national health care reform legislation isn't about spaghetti; it's about providing affordable health care coverage, right?

A few months ago, I read through the main points of the health care reform bill located online. A troubling thing was the vagueness of the legislation. It seemed as if we should just accept this and the details will be worked out later.

I don't think so.

Another troubling thing was my being forced to get coverage. Where's freedom of choice? That should stay in place.

Here's a better way to stimulate me, an uninsured. How about providing direct government funding, let's say a check of sorts for insurance coverage, and letting me choose the coverage? How about the government getting directly involved with the insurance and pharmaceutical companies to provide lower premiums and costs?

Let's eat spaghetti if we want to and choose the insurance coverage that meets our needs without this administration making us do both.

"Canadians do not come to

"Canadians do not come to the U S for their medical treatments as far as we know." is not true. Since President Obama has taken office over 17,000 Canadians have come to the U.S. for treatment.

The Military is well run and

The Military is well run and it is what Govt. does best. Everything else they do is drowning in red ink. National health insurance will not be any different. AND STOP CALLING IT HEALTH CARE. EVERYBODY GETS HEALTH CARE...IT'S HEALTH INSURANCE... HEALTH INSURANCE...GET IT RIGHT.
(Damn parrot took over the keyboard while I took a bathroom break. Sorry about that.

Currently there are about 50

Currently there are about 50 million U.S. residents are without health coverage. When the plan is completely in place in 2019, 25 million will still be without coverage. Of those 25 million, 17 million would be U.S. citizens or legal immigrants. The plan is estimate to cost $829 billion over 10 years. The government will spend about $3300 per individual per year for coverage. The government could probably purchase the insurance directly from insurance companies for about half that amount. With the saving, then be able to insure the remaining 25 million people.

Gil, You joke. I think we

Gil, You joke. I think we all know she's intelligent and she's created a great job for her attacking good government and liberals. Now why is that. She knows the right will buy any nonsesical lie so the more she lies she tells the more money she makes. Russ is up to $400 million. Right.
Louise, everything you want in the Health Care Reform legislation is there. Requiring everyone to have some form of insurance makes the same sense that requiring car insurance does.
Why does it do it now? Because the insurance co stated that they would oppose reform unless everyone was required to have insurance. Now that they have revealed their two-faced dealings on the issue. I hope we can get back to a robust, voluntary, public option or extended Medicare to all with tiered premiums.

Mandatory car insurance

Mandatory car insurance makes REAL sense. Is that why we're all required by law to carry uninsured motorist coverage? So, mandatory health care coverage will require that we all carry coverage for those who won't buy it, is that right? And we think the Govt. is going to run this honestly and effeciently, too; right? And Brad and Jen were never really married, right? What a freakin' joke.

You need to ask yourself a

You need to ask yourself a few questions - "When has the US government ever forced it's citizenry to buy a good or service under threat of penalties and jail time?" If you can't answer that then try this one - " Why are they doing it now?"

Gee Rex, welcome to the den

Gee Rex, welcome to the den of inequity. Do you wear your liberalism as a badge of honor? (My parrot was just wondering)

And another shining example

And another shining example of liberal logic. You can't answer the question, so attack something else. like an intelligent woman, which scares liberal men.

Virtually everyone is

Virtually everyone is required to purchase Social Security and Medicare. Oops another gil statment proven wrong.

Wrong Dan, you do not

Wrong Dan, you do not purchase either of those, you are taxed to fund them, a big difference. Along the same lines as the lib proposed health care though. All three are funded at the point of the gun, all three are government run, all three are doomed to failure, all three are lib ideas.

Taxes are a percentage of

Taxes are a percentage of your income to provided needed government services, like the military. How you can not see the difference in that and being told you will buy INSURANCE or be FINED? You can't seriously be that incredibly stupid.

Of course there is no

Of course there is no difference, but gil likes to use semantics to prove to himself that he's not wrong. He hates to ever admit he's wrong, which is understandable considering he usually is.

This coming from someone who has never offered a shred of proof on any of the lies he spins on here. Aside from the fact that he is a coward who won't back his mouth up with actions.

Robt - I must have missed

Robt - I must have missed the part about Christ checking for 'green cards' when He had His apostles distribute the loaves and fishes.

Veritas, the apostles and

Veritas, the apostles and the people weren't lining up EXPECTING they would get something. Big difference to what we see today. Christ also said " I will make you fishers of men"....try doing that with those firmly entrenched in welfare benefits today.

Au contraire, Robert. They

Au contraire, Robert.

They certainly did line up with the expectations they were getting something.

Better go back and read your Bible.

And our present day "Fishers of Men?" and Women? Luring them across the border for the menial jobs at substandard pay. They're hardly coming up for the welfare benefits. 'Americans' take that rather than the jobs offered by many corporations.

Tell us the extent to which you interacted with migrants.

Now Louise, you sound like

Now Louise, you sound like one of those wild, unruly, rabid tea party people who refuse to accept that the politicians know more that you how to run your life. They have a better way to plan your health care and spend your tax dollars. You don't have to worry about anything, the state and federal gov't agencies with take care of everythng for you.
