Sacred covenant

To think that homosexual activities can change the laws of God, and that God is wrong, is stunning. God made marriage to be a sacred covenant and sacrament between man and a women; his laws and order cannot be nullified.

It is a mortal sin. It is self-destructive. It is against nature. It needs forgiveness, not codification and normalization. Yet amidst all this, they must be told God still loves them and they can be redeemed, but society cannot "normalize" a self-destructive behavior that can rob a human being of their eternal soul.

If they wish to practice this behavior behind closed doors, so be it. They will be prayed for, and they will be offered the same forgiveness as everyone. But when they try to force the rest of us to create a right to homosexual marriage where none exists, they must be opposed with all our might.

David Dostie, Lewiston

Let's be clear on this. No

Let's be clear on this. No consensual sexual activity that man can conceive of is unnatural, wrong, a sin, a problem, or disgusting. Those who believe otherwise are disgusting.

Mr. Dostie, stop blaming

Mr. Dostie, stop blaming this on God. If God exists and if mankind was made in his image (a truely arrogant belief) and God is perfect. Then God created homosexuals. He intended them to live full and happy lives. God is gay. As he is also male and female, black and white, etc. The blame rests with those whose false beliefs based on their own hatred have misrepresented God to lend credibility to their hate.

Dr. D - The LSJ often

Dr. D - The LSJ often reports on events within the religious community. The greater portion of our community is of some religious persuasion; the majority is Christian. Those are they to whom David Dostie is appealing. Religious people must act on their sincerely held convictions, even in the public realm. To ask them to do otherwise is to ask them to live schizophrenic lives. Separation of church and state is a principle which is more aptly applied to the imposition of a State religion. The issue which we currently debate does not fall under the category of something which is simply a sectarian doctrine.

So David, who made you God

So David, who made you God all of a sudden. I guess you neglected to read the words of Jesus "Love one another as I have loved you". As bad as your letter is, God is so good that he loves you to!

John, You are correct in

John,

You are correct in that Jesus taught us to love one another, but he also taught us to hate sin because it is a barrier between us and God, and prevents us from having a personal relationship with him. Look at the scriptures again. There are multiple times that Jesus told people "I forgive you, go and sin no more". He also claimed that he did not come to do away with the Law (i.e. the Law of Moses and the teachings of the Old Testament) but to fulfil it. When he was asked what the greates commandment was, he said "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." - Matthew 22:36-40

If we love God, we endevour to live in a manner that is consistent with his commandments. If we truly love our neighbor as ourselves we will want what is best for them too, and that is a right relationship with God.

jojo...some of us believe in some parts of the bible. But here's a warning: if I catch you stoning unclean brides or killing disobedient children, you, lady, are in big, big trouble. I don't give a fig what you believe, ya hear? I'm warning ya!

Very, very good letter Mr.

Very, very good letter Mr. Dostie. You can tell that some people do not believe in the Bible. The Bible states that man shall not sleep with man, God loves us all but does not condone the immoral actions they commit.
I do not want my Grandchildren and great-grandchildren to learn about Homosexuality in school, how disgusting. Let their parents speak to their children about this matter.
If #1 is passed, it is opening a can of worms. Pastors will end up having to marry them, People will want to marry more than one person at a time, marry their pets, what's next.
They take God out of our schools and put in homosexuality. May God bless us all.

jojolou you write: "They

jojolou you write: "They take God out of our schools and put in homosexuality" Where will they put Homosexuality 101, between math and literacy?!? Public elementary schools in Maine are focused on reading, writing and math. There is barely enough time for physical education, music and art.

You also state in your post: "People will want to marry more than one person at a time, marry their pets, what's next." As many of you who plan to vote yes on question 1 you can only think about the sexual activity that occurs between 2 consenting adults. Are you obsessed with the sexual activity of every heterosexual couple that you encounter? Do you think about their genetalia every time you encounter the opposite sex on the street? You fail to look at the whole individual.

jojo..you're gonna pay for your comments for the rest of the day. One thing you have to remember about liberals. They preach tolerance, and, "live and let live", but they practice none of it. Want proof? Just disagree with one; they'll accuse YOU of trying to impose your beliefs on them. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED AN OPINION with a liberal.

Wow, David, fella...you sure

Wow, David, fella...you sure missed some pretty important parts of that there book you're waving around. When you try to deny others the rights that you have, that is judging them.
Maine is not voting on your interpretation of God's law here, good buddy. We're voting on different law...you know? The one that says, "All men are created equal"? Ya know that one?
How 'bout this one...remember the religious wacko who waved this one around?
"Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix."
The book you're reading is OK, the person who is reading it to you is wacko.
