Boys' high school roundup: Buschmann paces Roadrunners

SALEM - Kaitie Buschmann netted a pair of first-half goals to propel Mt. Abram to a 3-1 victory over Jay/Livermore Falls in an MVC girls' soccer matchup Thursday.

Molly McCafferty also tallied for the Roadrunners (6-5-1) to complete the scoring. Mt. Abram carried a 2-1 advantage into the break and held tough in the second frame. Gillian Withee needed only one save to post the win.

Lexi Deering scored the lone goal for Jay/Livermore (7-4-2), while Beth Moore turned back six shots in net.  

Georges Valley 2, Monmouth 1

MONMOUTH - Jaime Brooks converted a pass from Holly Allen with just under eight minutes left in regulation to lift Georges Valley to a 2-1 victory over Monmouth in MVC girls' soccer action Thursday.

Brooks gave the undefeated Buccaneers (12-0-1) a 1-0 advantage when she took a cross from Rachel Frye and fired it into the net with 14:54 left in the first frame. The Mustangs (1-11-1) tied the contest just eight minutes into the second as Danielle Burnham scored with assists from Daisy Poole and Kristi Hilton.

Kennadi Grover made two saves in net for Georges Valley to notch the win. Chelsea Hilton turned aside 11 shots between the posts for Monmouth.  

St. Dom's 3, Dirigo 1

AUBURN - Ali Desjardin netted a pair of first-half goals Thursday as St. Dom's hustled to a 3-1 victory over Dirigo in an MVC girls' soccer tilt.

The Saints (11-0-2) added an insurance goal when Sophie Goulet found the net 10 minutes into the second frame. Elise Applegate made four saves in net for St. Dom's to record the win.

Emily Chase scored the lone goal for the Cougars' (6-7) nine minutes into the contest. Natasha Deroche turned aside 11 shots between the posts for Dirigo. 

Gray-NG 4, Wells 0

GRAY - Taylor Darnell led a group of four players to record goals as Gray-New Gloucester rolled over Wells 4-0 in a WMC matchup Thursday.

Kassie Wilson, Michaela Despins and Meg Dehetre also tallied for the Patriots (3-10) to complete the scoring. Sammie Wilkins needed only two saves to preserve the shutout. Erin Rogus turned back 14 shots between the posts for Wells (3-10). 

Yarmouth 4, Poland 3

POLAND - Lizzie Fischman scored two goals, including the game-winner 55 seconds into the first overtime, as Yarmouth dismissed Poland with a 4-3 victory in a girls' soccer game Thursday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first half. The Knights (4-7-1) struck first when Celeste Knowles scored one of her two goals. But Yarmouth hit back when Fischman tied it with her unassisted goal.

In the second half, Yarmouth got goals from Jeanna Lowery and Rebecca Bell. Poland's Sophie Geelhoed scored on a Libby Bernier feed. Bernier then set up the tying goal, allowing Knowles to score her second of the game.

Poland goalie Morg Copp did a find job holding off Yarmouth, making 13 saves.

Boys' soccer

Mt. Abram 6, Telstar 0

SALEM - Kenny Moir led a group of six players to record goals as Mt. Abram cruised to a 6-0 romp over Telstar in a late-season MVC boys' soccer tilt Thursday.

Jim Barker, Dylan Tisor, Mark Wahl, Alex Lopez and Ben Listowitz also tallied for the Roadrunners (8-4) to complete the scoring. Josh Beede made nine saves to record his sixth shutout of the season.

Dan Vaughn was solid in net for the Rebels, turning aside seven shots.
