The Falcons beat Falmouth twice last year, 42-7 and 41-6 in a Campbell Conference semifinal game, but the Yachtsmen were well prepared this time.

Mountain Valley ( 7-0) started strong and scored twice in the first quarter with two long drives. Kaubris threw a 45-yard strike to Tyler Mason, who had beaten the coverage. Kaubris also dove in from the 1 yard line. Jacob Arsenault (23 this fall) kicked both PATs to put the Falcons ahead 14-0.

"I'm proud my kids," Mountain Valley coach Jim Aylward said. "They played hard and so did Falmouth. The competition is getting better and we need to step it up."

The running game was led by Matt Duka (165 yards, 21 rushes, TDs) and Brady Fergola (48 yards, rushes), who each earned some hard yards.

Falmouth (6-4), QB Zack Alexander gained positive yards witth shifty moves and scored on a 14-yard run in the second quarter. Alexander had a strong passing arm and Jack Coolsen (six catches, 65 yards) was the favorite target.

Once again, the MV defense stiffened with Ryan Laubauskas, Stephen Jeselkis, Ryan Glover, Cole Clark, Christian Durland and Nick Taylor. Chris Day and Kaubris each had interceptions.

"In the second half coach Aylward just told us we had to make it happen," said Durland, who had two sacks and blocked a punt. "There was no confusion on defensive assignments. Their quarterback did earn yards, but we tackled him for losses. Our sideline was great. They were in to the game and it felt like one big family."

Falmouth intercepted a pass and made the Falcons punt four times. Duka scored on a 17-yard run in the third quarter.

Glover had two and one half sacks and forced Falmouth into numerous third-and-long situations in second half. Falmouth was 0-of-1 on third downs.

"WWe have tough games coming up," Aylward said. "We need to get better, but we Will be playing in November."
