Girls roundup: Falmouth eliminates Leavitt from field hockey playoffs

Falmouth 2, Leavitt 0

FALMOUTH — Stephanie Gramsee scored the eventual game-winning goal as Falmouth held on for a 2-0 victory over Leavitt in Western Maine Class B Quarterfinals field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets (8-6-1) dominated in the first half, but could not penetrate the Falmouth defenses.

The Yachtsmen (10-4-1) scored their first goal on a late flurry just before the midpoint as Gramsee converted a relay from Courtney Proctor. Falmouth applied continued pressure throughout the second half, and finally added a safety on a penalty corner from Nicole Foley.

Goalie Taylor Eells made six saves for Leavitt, while Kelsey Freedman turned back eight shots for Falmouth in the winning effort.

York 5, Gray-New Gloucester  1

YORK — Top-seeded Gray-New Gloucester scored three times in the first half and cruised to a 5-1 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in a Western Class B field hockey quarterfinal Saturday.

Kellee Cribby and Hannah Keating scored two goals apiece for the Wildcats (14-1). Breanna Harlow scored the only goal for the Patriots (7-7-1) off an assist from Kellie Sanborn. 

Girls' Soccer

Jay-Livermore 2, Mountain Valley 1

LIVERMORE FALLS — Lexi Deering scored and Alannah White topped it off with the eventual game-winner as Jay-Livermore held off Mountain Valley with a 2-1 victory in a girls' soccer game Saturday.

The Wildcats (8-4-2) struck first when Deering scored on an Alexis Blodgett Feed. White then punched in her game-winner from 25 yards out without any assistance.

The Falcons (5-6-3) got on the board when Hillary Dolloff scored. The Falcons held the advantage in shots, 16-13, and corners, 4-2.

Lewiston 1, Oxford Hills 1

LEWISTON — After matching goals in the first half, both Lewiston and Oxford Hills put together great team efforts in the second half to shut each other down and end in a 1-1 tie.

Caitlin Hanley had the Oxford Hills goal, while Shelby Dobransky matched  her for Lewiston off an assist  from Tori Denis. Samantha Hatch made 19 saves in goal for the Vikings (0-11-2), while Beth Lebel stopped 10 shots for the Blue Devils (2-10-1).

Hebron 3, Gould 2

BETHEL — Kaitlyn Paiton netted the game-winning goal in the 61st minute to lift Hebron to a 3-2 victory over Gould in girls' soccer action Saturday.

Jordan Ramharter scored the game's opening goal, while Izzy Tamposi gave the Huskies a one-goal lead at the break. 

Down 2-1 at the half, Chelsea Boucher tied things up just seven minutes into the second period for the Lumberjacks.

Goalie Janelle Bradish recorded nine saves to earn the win in net for Hebron.
