Down with the trees

FARMINGTON — Three large, and two small, dead trees were taken down Monday on Perham Street in Farmington in a joint effort between the town's Public Works Dept. and Central Maine Power, Public Works Director Denis Castonguay said.

A portion the street was closed  — and on Tuesday part of Court Street will be closed, as three or more dead maples will also be taken down. CMP hired Lucas Tree due to the closeness of the trees to the power lines. The town crew cleared the large pieces of trunk brought to the ground by a crane. The trees had become a hazard, not only to the power lines, but also to pedestrians and traffic, Castonguay said.
