Abbott looking into Blaine House bid

LEWISTON — Steve Abbott confirmed Tuesday a rumor that has been circulating among many Republicans and bloggers for weeks: he is seriously considering a gubernatorial bid.

Abbott, who serves as Sen. Susan Collins' chief of staff, would be running as a Republican.

"I've had a number of people talk to me about running for governor, and it's something that I'm taking very seriously," he said during a phone interview Tuesday.

Abbott said he'll take the fall and early winter to weigh the decision before making an official announcement in January.

"(My wife and I) have a 9-year-old and a 5-year-old, and I've got a job, so it's finding the right balance and figuring out the impact it would have on the family," he said. "I just want to take a look at what I could add to the race and what kind of contribution I think I could make."

Motivating his run would be his love of Maine, Abbott said.

"I've lived here all my life, and I think this is a great state that's going through some tough times, and it's important for everybody to do their part to help out. I want to figure out how I can make the best contribution in that effort," he said. Abbott grew up in Orono and now lives in Portland.

There are currently six Republican candidates who have filed their intentions with the state to take a run at the Blaine House, and a total of 21 candidates registered so far.

I really hope that Steve

I really hope that Steve Abbott does decide to run. He's a true Mainer, is talented, intelligent and has great political instincts. The names that have surfaced to date on both sides of the political aisle don't make me feel good about Maine's future. And yes, Bob67, Les Otten is very serious about running.

Does any one know if Les

Does any one know if Les Otten is seriously pursuing a run for Governor or is it all B.S?

Albrecht is great at name

Albrecht is great at name calling. Totally void of ideas, other than to elect more Democrats to office. I am willing to bet that he never met Steve Abbott in person, but has a negative name ready for him. Tells much about the name caller.

All the best,

Bob

Abbott has a proven record

Abbott has a proven record when it comes to elections. You can bet many of the state's prominent business leaders will line up behind him.

This would be a big win for

This would be a big win for the Republican Party in the State of Maine! Abbott's candidacy would bring legitimacy to a primary race that it is currently lacking it. There are a lot of candidates already announced, but, in my view, they each lack the experience and vision to truly deliver results in Augusta.

Steve is an individual whose life experience bridges the gap that often exists between an electorate and candidates. As Governor, Steve would truly be an everyday Mainer working the people of this great state. Should he decide to run, I have no doubt that he would be the strongest possible candidate in the general election. I am eagerly looking forward to voting for him next June and November!

Liberals are running the

Liberals are running the state now, and Mainers are hurting more than ever. Don't blame it on BUSH like you usually do.
Lower taxed states with smaller state run Governments are doing alot better than the Peoples Republic of Maine.
