Money is not there
When it is voting time there is always a space for bond issues being offered by the state. They are for underfunded roads and bridges mostly. There has always been a space for another bond for something or other.
The state must stop spending money it does not have. It now has $153+ million in bonds outstanding. Maine residents are being highly taxed because of the heavy outstanding debt plus interest, and now there is another request for $50+ million more.
If the debt for the cities and the school departments are added in, people would know why their property taxes keep going up.
The state must live within its means, and if taxpayers have to say no, so be it. The state cannot keep spending money it doesn't have.

We don't have to vote for this, as long as we leave the excise tax alone.
