High school football: Battle of the Bridge moved to Friday

Citing the threat of rain, Edward Little and Lewiston have agreed to move the 166th Battle of the Bridge up 18 hours.

The game, originally scheduled for Saturday, will be played at 7 p.m. Friday at Walton Field. Forecasts call for a rain/snow mix to move into the region overnight Friday into Saturday, changing to rain during the day on Saturday with temperatures in the low 40s. With drier weather expected Friday night, the two schools opted for the better conditions.

"We all agreed that we don't need any more drenching, cold, wet rain down our backs," Edward Little coach Darren Hartley said. "We'd all like a nice environment to play in."

Lewiston (5-2) enters the game with a spot in the Pine Tree Conference playoffs already wrapped up. Edward Little (1-6) is out of the playoff picture.

The Blue Devils lead the all-time series, 87-66-12, but the Red Eddies have won the last two meetings. Both of those wins came last year, when EL dropped Lewiston, 19-12, in the regular season finale at Don Roux Field. That snapped a five-game Lewiston winning streak and earned the Eddies the home-field advantage for when the two teams met again two weeks later in the PTC semifinals, where EL picked up a 28-7 victory.
