WILTON — Police on Wednesday were looking for a burglary suspect caught on video at Rick's Market on the corner of Routes 2 and 156, Police Chief Dennis Brown said.

Responding to a burglar alarm at the convenience store at 3:38 a.m. Wednesday, police found the glass on the front door broken, Brown said. The suspect apparently had tried to pry open the cash register. Store employees were checking to see whether anything else had been taken, he said later Wednesday. The store was closed at the time of the break-in.

The video shows a white male, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds, approaching the front door, Brown said. The suspect was wearing a navy blue sweatshirt, jeans and a baseball cap.

The video shows him jumping the counter and beginning his attempt to force open the register. He stops and runs out the door. The video then picks up the officer arriving shortly afterward, Brown said.

During their investigation, police learned that a tan Ford truck, either a late 1980 or early 1990 model, was seen in the area at the time of the burglary. They also collected physical evidence at the scene.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Lt. Page Reynolds at 645-3876.
