MEXICO — The Region 9 School of Applied Technology board unanimously approved a revised cooperative agreement with its sending schools Tuesday night.
It also approved a contract for a hot lunch program with the Western Foothills School District.
Director Brenda Gammon said the new cooperative agreement, which set guidelines for sending vocational students from Mountain Valley, Dirigo and Telstar Regional high schools, primarily changed the name of the district that now sends students from Mountain Valley and Dirigo high schools.
Those high schools are now members of Regional School Unit 10, also known as the Western Foothills School District. Telstar is part of Regional School Unit 44 in Bethel.
Each sending school district or town had previously approved the contract. Besides RSU 10, which includes the town of Hanover, Region 9 serves students from the unaffiliated towns of Upton and Gilead.
With the creation of RSU 10, Region 9 now contracts with the new district for supplying lunches for students and staff. The costs are: $2 for student, 40 cents for reduced-price lunches, and $3.50 for adults.
Approximately 50 meals are delivered from Dirigo Middle School in Dixfield each day. Previously, Region 9 had contracted with the former SAD 21.
In other matters, the board approved the hiring of a long-term substitute for the building trades program to fill in while instructor Lloyd Williams is on sick leave. Gammon said the person hired will likely work for about six weeks, beginning in mid-November.
The vocational school's annual open house takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 17, followed by the board's monthly meeting.
