God's commandment

Published on Monday, Oct 26, 2009 at 12:12 am | Last updated on Monday, Oct 26, 2009 at 12:12 am 21 Comments

Let me see if I have this right ...

God created Adam (male); saw that Adam was lonely, so created Eve (female) to keep Adam company. Putting the apple and snake incidents aside, God commanded Adam and Eve to join (good move) and multiply.

The first marriage!

But, God made a mistake. God gave man intelligence to discern right from wrong. Otherwise, humanity would behave like animals, acting on instinct alone. But now look at the mess humanity is in.

Fast forward. Every living thing on this Earth revolves around male and female interactions — sex. Let's leave it that way. It's what God commanded.

If humans are so intelligent, then let them roll up their sleeves and find solutions to eradicate disease, cancer, Alzheimer's, birth defects and deviant, unsolicited sexual disorders, to name a few.

Adam and Eve ... that is what God commanded. Period.

Albert R. Grandmaison, Lewiston

To the letter writer: We

To the letter writer:

We aren't the Taliban in America, you don't get to impose your narrow-minded "beliefs" upon others, anymore than the Wiccans get to make you dance in the forest in celebration of the solstice.

It is not your right to deny equal rights for your fellow citizens.

Civil marriage is what we're

Civil marriage is what we're talking about here, folks...which has NOTHING to do with the church....it's recognized by the STATE. A civil marriage can be performed anywhere....by the ocean, on top of a mountain, without a church in sight....performed by a Justice of the Peace....who has NOTHING to do with a church....yet these marriages are not looked down upon as not being a "real" marriage because they didn't take place in a church with a member of the clergy....why is that? And why is it that the STATE issues marriage license and not the church, hmmmmm? This is a civil issue, not a religious one.

Homosexuality is perfectly

Homosexuality is perfectly normal.
And no this is not nor ever was a "christian nation". And no our founding fathers have never decreed any such thing. And freedom OF religion includes freedom FROM religion. No subtle difference at all.
The first Amendment includes 6 separate ideas including religion, speech, assembling, and petitioning government. Why? Because James Madison thought they all were related to conscience. He wanted no man to be able to corrupt/force another's opinion. The cute games people play with language like FROM v OF. Are just that games of deception.

And Albert made a mistake

And Albert made a mistake (as he also alleges God did)

He forgot to preface his letter with "Once Upon a Time"

Wow. Only in America can so

Wow. Only in America can so little be said by so many. Albert, I agree with you; the problem is that those who don't, don't have a vision of a loving God. And that's the sad part. But keep trying - some will come around, some won't.

"dont have a vision a loving

"dont have a vision a loving god" now thats hypocrisy. The God we believe in is most definately a loving god, yours and Alberts is not.

Mr. Grandmaison, in your

Mr. Grandmaison, in your rather confusing letter I would like to address just one thing. There ARE people working on ways to eradicate diseases and find treatments and hopefully cures for the ills of the world. Please realize that some of those people dedicating their lives to these noble causes are, in their private lives, gay. Do not overlook their worth to society just because you disagree with their personal lives.
I find it ironic that the exact opposite argument is being used to deny the rights of gays as was once used to deny marriage between races. Back then, it was argued that two people of different races shouldn't be allowed to marry because they MIGHT HAVE CHILDREN oh my!! Today it's argued that a gay couple shouldn't be allowed to marry because they CAN'T HAVE CHILDREN oh no!!! Ulitmately, it's no one's business. Church is the place to surround yourself with people who are not so different from you if that's what makes you happy. But don't deny rights to another law abiding citizen because they are different from you.

Haha, Adam and Eve, what a

Haha, Adam and Eve, what a bunch of b.s. You actually believe thats how life started? Marriage is a social construction and can be between a man and woman, a man and a man, or a woman and a woman. Leave this whole "Gods word" bullshit out of it. Fortunately for the common good of U.S. citizens there is a separation of church and state. This was imposed so nothing as ignorant as religious beliefs can control what they interpret is right.

First Amendment

First Amendment read:"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." The amendment is saying that one has the freedom OF religion, not the freedom FROM religion. Subtle but a major difference.

Albert, God created Adam and

Albert,
God created Adam and Eve. They had two sons, and one the killed the other, so now what? So the son has sex with Eve to keep the population going, then maybe a sister later on and on. Isn't this totally against the catholic church, incest?

By the way, God created everyone in HIS image for His purpose and no one can take that away from God's children. As much as you hate them, it looks like you would kicked out one of your own out in the cold of winter. Is this LOVE, that Jesus thought us?
