WOODSTOCK — Twenty voters unanimously approved spending $35,000 Tuesday for a 1987 Pierce Arrow Pumper for the fire department at a special town meeting.

The money will come from the town's equipment account, according to Town Manager Vern Maxfield.

"The truck is being purchased from the South Berwick Fire Department and will replace our 1974 Bean Pumper for $27,000. The other $8,000 will be used to equip the unit to our standards," Maxfield said.

He said it will be added to the town's fleet as soon as it is equipped to the satisfaction of the fire department members.

Prior to the special meeting, the regular selectmen's meeting was held and Maxfield reported to the board that he has received $103,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency reimbursing the town for money spent this past summer on road repairs related to the heavy rains that came through Maine in late June and July.

The majority of the money spent was on the Redding Road near the Sumner town line, which was impassable for several days.

"This comes within about $15,000 of the total cost of the repairs we did on the roads damaged, including some upgrades we also went ahead with," Maxfield said.
