Open our minds and hearts
What are people afraid of? Why are people worried about allowing same-sex marriage? How will allowing two committed individuals the privilege of being recognized as life partners under the law hurt them? Why is homosexuality a threat to some people?
I have my own belief system about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I am a law-abiding citizen who respects the laws of my state and my country, and I respect the rights of others to believe differently. In fact, I am fascinated with others' beliefs, whether I agree with them or not, and I truly love engaging in healthy conversation about differences. This country was founded on the belief that all are created equal and that individuals have the right to their own beliefs.
Honoring a commitment between two caring individuals under the law is not going to hurt anyone.
To think that educators will begin to "teach" homosexuality in the schools because life partners of the same sex are recognized is ridiculous. Will homosexuality go away because people don't talk about it?
Since the beginning of time, men and women have followed their biological urges as they were granted; people just didn't talk about it. And now, in this "free" society, strides have been made to recognize that each person is an individual who cannot change his or her gender.
Let's open our minds and hearts to fellow members of the human race and grant them the rights that they are being denied.

In your thinking then a man can rape a woman and a pregnancy occurs because of this crime, yet he should be commended because thye produced a baby?? Or, if a heterosexual couple choose not to have children than they have not fullfilled their "duty" on earth? What if a heterosexual couple desperately wants to have a child but have been unable to conceive. Should we ban them from earth?? If two heterosexual teens decided to engage in sexual activity and the girl becomes pregnant than should we cheer because they were able to produce a baby??? Your comment is ludicrous.

Open minds are being filled with lies, that why we should vote Yes on #1 . We do not need to have our children taught that a homosexual lifestyle is just a alternative lifesystle. The indoctrination of our childrens minds in the public school system has been going on for a long time. Gay marriage is another piece of the far left liberal agenda thats destroying our nation.

FYI, no lifestyle is taught in school, whether it is straight or gay. People like yourself are just trying to use peoples children to strategically manipulate them to vote Yes on 1. What exactly are people like yourself and the church truly scared of? Whether or not this bill passes this year or not makes no difference. As other young voters come of age, it's apparent that it WILL pass eventually. I hope others will join myself this Tuesday and vote NO on 1.

No I don't have family that can help me. In fact not only am I raising my own children but I am also taking care of an ill parent. My son is special needs and there are no day cares that will take him with his needs so I have multiple barriers. I have tried to work and lost jobs because I was constantly called by the schools to get my son or to go to take care of a situation with him. Employers are not going to work with a person that needs constant time off to go to medical appointments with a child when there is such high unemployment and many people competing for the same jobs. If I could, I would work, but finding child care is impossible and finding a job that will work around the situation I am in has been impossible to date but I haven't given up.

Youre half correct here.
Youre half correct here. Public Schools are a reason private schools thrive. But the private schools in Maine are hurting right now. Not because of the curriculum or the performance (they outperform public education by miles) but because of the economy. St. Doms will accept almost anyone, probably even avowed athiests if they have the $$. This is sad.
I do know there are Christian Schools that are top-level adacemically that are not at all expensive, and the best part is that they still hold the students and parents to the mission statement of a true Christian School. That involves active parental involvement and family-centered Christ-centered living (notice not "God" as that can mean anything to anybody). But this is one reason when combined with the economy that they are hurting right now. The only upside is that the student to teacher ratio is extremely good. No public school can tough the Christian Academies in this area, and the tuition is surprisingly low.
Hebron Academy and St. Doms are just flat out expensive... too expensive for all but the financially cozy...
