Bates College students work to create the number 350 with their bicycles prior to the start of a bike parade in Lewiston on Saturday. Organized by the Bates Energy Action Movement, the parade was designed to raise awareness for climate change and coincided with the International Day of Climate Action. Scientists say 350 parts per million is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. According to the Web site 350.org, the current atmospheric concentration of C02 is 387 ppm. Clockwise from lower left are Teresa Cooper, Maayan Cohen, Nathalie Woolworth, Emily Grady, Mark Stehlik, Zach Jylkka and Kyle Hagenbuch. The number 350 was created in various ways all over the world on Saturday.
Gil, I think you misread the good doctors post, he said the island is "sinking".
