AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The campaign for a taxpayer's bill of rights referendum is asking Maine's attorney general to investigate pre-election activities by two State House offices.
The TABOR campaign questions activities by the legislative staffs of Senate President and gubernatorial candidate Elizabeth Mitchell and House Speaker Hannah Pingree, both Democrats.
The TABOR campaign claims documents obtained through a Freedom of Access Act request show that taxpayer-funded legislative resources and legislative staff time were used to fight Questions 2 and 4. Those questions on next Tuesday's ballot seek excise tax curbs and new spending and tax restrictions.
Mitchell's and Pingree's offices dismiss TABOR's claims as "baseless and withiut fact."
