"I have money but I can't get a place to sleep and I thought I had better come down here and get lodging if I could rather than have a policeman bring me," she said. The woman went on to tell that she had tried one or two rooms at boarding houses and at one local hotel but that they were cold as barns. She was allowed to spend the night in the women's cell where it was warm even if no bed with a mattress was provided.
