Hideous monsters

Published on Sunday, Nov 1, 2009 at 1:01 am | Last updated on Sunday, Nov 1, 2009 at 1:01 am 8 Comments

Well, now they want to slap windmills on Streaked Mountain; from there they will spread like Eurasian milfoil over every ridge and hill in western Maine.

Greedy privateers, crazed by the lure of fast money from ill-conceived government subsidies are lining up to do just that. Then they will disappear and area residents will be left to stare up at those hideous monsters and endure their banshee-like wail whenever the wind blows.

Whatever electricity the towers produce will be sent off to Massachusetts.

We must stop them now.

I agree we need less wind

I agree we need less wind power. Wind power is lame. We need nuclear power. Lots and Lots of Nuclear power.

dr.dosh and candice to your

dr.dosh and candice to your comments I have seen computer generated pictures of what the windmills will look like on the mountain. Second how can flating a forested mountain and put up metal windmills be beautiful.
As far as the access to the land goes. I do understand that while under constuction it is a safety issue but the roads a gated miles from the site. Also coming from an area with a with a fair amount of gated roads I know once a gate goes up it won't come done.
And finally anyone thinking I am whining after the fact should know we never had a before the fact. Meaning is the town selectmen cancelled the only town meeting (the meeting which all issues involving the town like the windmills) due to the fact that the auditer was sick. thats fine but that was on superbowl sunday and no town meeting was ever held. The town is being run on 2008 budget and votes. We had no chance to question the windmills or let are voices be heard until the company already had all the permits and they just wanted us to know what they would be doing up there.

I have some of those

I have some of those windmills going up in my area and I agree with pete. The windmills a huge ugly things that will destroy the the rural look of Maine. The windmill owners said that people would still be able to use the land that the windmills will be on but already (the windmills have not been built yet) all the trails leading into the area are blocked off. All the windmills are going to do is make the country side look crappy and thats it.

Next thing you know they'll

Next thing you know they'll want to put lighthouses all up and down our beautiful coast!

If they are not up yet, how

If they are not up yet, how do you know they are going to be ugly? Did it occur to you that the area is blocked of for safety during construction? If it where a new shopping center going up you would not be able to wonder around during construction though once completed it will be full accessible, why would this construction site be any different? Give it a chance you might be pleasantly surprised and Maine might just see some advancement for a change.

"Slap windmills..." Just get

"Slap windmills..." Just get on a work crew and slap one up, Pete. I guarantee you'll sleep well at night.

"...every ridge and hill in Western Maine..." EVERY one? Every last one. Without exception? Every hill. Every hill. You have an active, if not accurate, imagination.

"Whatever electricity the towers produce will be sent off to Massachusetts." All of it? Every last watt? Prove it.

Prove anything you said. Anything.

I have seen windmills

I have seen windmills elsewhere ans find them absolutely beautiful. Also think of how many people have gone to Holland over the last century specifically to see the vast variety of windmills there. Maine looks like a wasteland of death in the winter, it will be a relieve to be able to go and see the great moving "birds" as I think they look. And how many of us love pinwheels? I whink most of us had them as children, buy them for our children and grandchildren and look for them to come out every spring. You will even see pinwheel lawn ornaments and mounted on cars and boats, so ehats up with the whine on the big year round pinwheels. If anything we might ask for some bright paint jobs.

There are windmills all over

There are windmills all over Europe and they are not hideous monsters at all. People there know that they must generate electricity cleanly and if windmills are part of the equation than so be it. If you've ever actually seen one in operation they are magnificent and completely quiet.

Any problem that can't be solved with taxcuts, republicans pretend doesn't exist.
