Martel named America East Striker of the Year
ORONO — University of Maine women's soccer standout Laura Martel was named the America East Striker of the Year Wednesday. It is the first time that a Maine player has been awarded Striker of the Year.
Martel, of Lewiston, has 12 goals and one assist for 25 points on the season. She recently fniished second in the voting for the America East Fan's Choice Player of the Year. Martel leads America East in both points per game and goals per game. She is tied for 27th in the nation in points per game with 1.67 and 16th in the country in goals per game.
In the 15 games Maine has played this season, Martel has scored goals in nine of them. She has currently scored a goal in four straight games headed into Maine's America East quarterfinal matchup against New Hampshire.
