HAMPDEN - Graham Safford snared a throw-in and booted it into the net with 6:05 left in regulation to lift No. 3 Hampden to a 1-0 victory over No. 6 Edward Little in an Eastern Class A quarterfinal boys' soccer matchup Wednesday.

The Red Eddies (8-4-3) were playing without a few key players, and it hurt their performance. Logan Poirier needed only three saves to notch the shutout. 

Ian Dollen-Oliveto turned aside six shots between the posts for Edward Little in a solid effort. 

Field hockey

Hebron 1, Tilton 1

HEBRON - Despite the best efforts of both squads to break away, Hebron and Tilton scrambled to a 1-1 tie in a prep school field hockey action Wednesday. 

Lauren Ratsep tallied for Hebron (3-3-2) at the 12:57 mark of the first frame, with an assist from Camree Thompson. Kaya Murphy tied things up at 1-1 with 13 minutes left in regulation. The two squads battled through overtime with no scoring.

Lauren Yomantas made seven saves in net for Hebron, while Tina Tine turned aside two shots for Tilton. 

 Girls' soccer

Tilton 4, Hebron 1

HEBRON - Janelle McCann netted a pair of second-half goals to propel Tilton to a 4-1 victory over Hebron in a prep school girls' soccer game.

The Rams scored late in the first period and took a 1-0 lead into the break. Hebron answered just six minutes into the second half when Chelsea Boucher conveted a pass from Sarah Markey. The Rams responded quickly, scoring a second goal just one minute later. They added two more unanswered goals to seal the win. 

Madeline Boles made three saves for Tilton to record the victory, while Janelle Brandish turned aside eight shots for Hebron.
