HS Football: Top 10

Published on Thursday, Oct 29, 2009 at 3:03 am | Last updated on Thursday, Oct 29, 2009 at 3:03 am

1. Thornton (8-0)

Golden Trojans have allowed 5.5 points per game. Some opponents' defenses have exceeded that clip in under 5.5 seconds.

2. Bangor (8-0)

Trailed Mt. Blue at the half last time they played.  Just sayin'.

3. Windham (7-1)

Once the Eagles stopped believing their own preseason press clippings, they became unstoppable.

4. Lawrence (7-1)

Bulldogs have lost one regular-season game since 2005. One!

5. Leavitt (8-0)

Last three weeks: 127-0. Eight first downs allowed.

6. Bonny Eagle (6-2)

OK, maybe the Scots have won a couple of games this year on their reputation. Aren't they entitled?

7. Cheverus (6-2)

Unofficial City of Portland champions. Pretty sure that hasn't happened since the first Bush administration, if not earlier.

8. Cape Elizabeth (8-0)

Following Foden Road to Fitzpatrick Stadium.

9. Foxcroft (8-0)

Beat the second-best team in the Little Ten Conference by 31 last week.

10. Dirigo (8-0)

There. That ought to motivate Mountain Valley.
