Woman airlifted to Lewiston hospital after pipe attack

MEXICO — A woman was flown to a Lewiston hospital Friday night after being struck in the head with a metal pipe, and police were investigating and unavailable to give details.

The assault happened at about 6:15 p.m. A Med-Care Ambulance parked in front of the Paradise Day Spa business and near a three-story brick apartment complex opposite the fire station took the unresponsive woman to Rumford Hospital. At about 7:30 p.m., a LifeFlight helicopter took her to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Mexico firefighters shut down Main Street, from the town office to the Mexico Shopping Plaza entrance. A few people within the cordoned area were asked to leave as police worked at the crime scene, searching with flashlights on the fire-station side of the illuminated town office sign and along the spa's driveway for upstairs tenants.

Two Rumford patrolmen arrived to help with the search.

I always get a sick feeling in my stomach when I hear lifeflight fly over my home. :( I hope she will recover quickly.
