Students to participate in Autumn Community Book Week

FARMINGTON — Once again, W. G. Mallett School and Devaney Doak & Garrett Booksellers have teamed up to offer literary events this week as part of Autumn Community Book Week.

An evening of community bedtime stories, the 13th annual Prime Time Reading Night, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mallett School with Maine author Fran Hodgkins reading from her newest book, "Who's Been Here? : A Tale of Tracks"

Everyone is welcome to dress in jammies, bring a stuffed friend and come back to school for bedtime stories.

The event is open to the public and Hodgkins will be available to talk and sign copies of her book.

The Book Character Parade is back again this year after not being held last year. Scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, the parade of characters will leave the school and parade through the downtown area. Children and teachers will march, holding the book that their character lives in.

Dads especially can get in on the fun Saturday when Devaney Doak & Garrett hold their "Donuts for Dads" event starting at 9 a.m. The doughnuts are free but the event is designed to benefit the Mallett School Library.

Two events being held throughout the week include a "Write a Book Review" contest. Mallett students are invited to write a book review for selected new books. A panel of judges will select the winners who will each received a gift certificate to DD&G.

DD&G Booksellers will also host an in-store book fair Nov. 2-7. A portion of the sales will also benefit the school library.
