Richard 'Dick' Couture

1941 - 2009

TOGUS — Richard (Dick) Couture, 68, of Lily Bay Township, passed away peacefully on Oct. 31, surrounded by his family while in Hospice care at Togus VA Medical Center, after a brief illness.

He was born in Lewiston, July 25, 1941, to Lucien and Olivette (Rancourt) Couture. He graduated from Lewiston High School and the Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in South Portland.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country as a member of the VA-93 squadron aboard the USS Ranger aircraft carrier. He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal for service during the Vietnam War.

He married Lynn Davis in Sanford. He was employed by the city of Lewiston for 34 years. He was the superintendent of the Municipal Garage and retired from there in 2001. He lived his entire life in Lewiston, until his retirement, when they then moved to Lily Bay Township on the shores of Moosehead Lake.

He loved to work with his hands and shared his knowledge with his only son. Together they shared a love of racing three-wheelers and were able to compete at the national level in the 1980s. He enjoyed traveling and he and his wife traveled cross-country several times. He also enjoyed volunteering for the Legion Post 94 in Greenville. He enjoyed the company of his canine companions, Keisha and his buddy, Bwana.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lynn of Lily Bay; son, Michael and his wife, Trina and granddaughters, Kelsey and Emma Couture of Westbrook; aunts; several cousins; a niece; and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lucien on Feb. 9, and Olivette Couture on Nov. 7, 2008. He was a devoted son who lovingly cared for them during their time of illness.

He lived a life of service to his family, church and country.
