CMCC to show film as part of Veterans Awareness Week
AUBURN — The award-winning documentary film "The Way We Get By" will be presented at Central Maine Community College as part of a week-long observance of National Veterans Awareness Week Nov. 8-14.
The Way We Get By is a seemingly idiosyncratic story about troop greeters — a group of senior citizens who gather daily at Bangor International Airport to thank American soldiers departing and returning from Iraq, but the film quickly turns into a moving, unsettling and compassionate story about aging, loneliness, war and mortality. " The Way We Get By" celebrates three unsung heroes who share their love with strangers who need and deserve it.
The film, presented free of charge and open to the public, will be played on the following days/times:
Monday, Nov. 9 from 3:30 to 5 p.m., in Jalbert Lecture Hall; Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Kirk Hall Auditorium; Thursday, Nov.12 from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. in Jalbert Lecture Hall.
The presentations of this important film are sponsored by the CMCC Student Senate, Nursing Association and Veterans Club. More information about the film is available at www.TheWayWeGetByMovie.com.
Other activities planned at the college include a visit by the "Vet Mobile" (VA mobile office) on Monday, Nov. 9, and a flag-raising ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. In addition, a display of memorabilia and uniforms from all military branches will be exhibited across from the campus bookstore.
