Mysterious angel monument appears in Livermore Falls
LIVERMORE FALLS — If you don't know the particular area of Route 17 as well as Don Simoneau does, you may not have noticed a newly erected, angel monument down a grassy embankment.
The monument, made out of several rocks in various shapes, definitely appears as an image of a small angel, with possibly a larger angel guarding it.
It is near the Moose Hill Pond, about half a mile from Simoneau's home in Fayette, just over the town line.
Simoneau, 57, had been out in his electric wheelchair recently when he noticed the makeshift monument while walking his dog, Kacey.
He remembered a car parked on the side of the road about a week prior, he said, but never saw anyone building the monument.
"I have lived here for 32 years and never knew of anyone who had been killed in an accident here," he said. There have been accidents down below his home that claimed a couple of lives, he said, but never in this particular spot. There was also a transient who drowned in the pond about 25 years ago, he said.
The appearance of the monument has left him wondering who would go to the effort to climb down the steep slope and put the rocks in place.
"It's a baby angel. It's really weird," Simoneau said, as he looked down at the monument from the side of the road. "Its like two angels. It's really strange. Somebody put a lot of work into it. It's beautiful. Then you get goosebumps and wonder why."

Simoneau and his VFW buddies are in on the gag. Stones are new. Notice there's no leaves or dog stains at the bottom. Nice publicity stunt Frenchy. That wheelchair doesn't fool the rest of US Vets. Too close to your house.
