DIXFIELD — An informational meeting on a proposed wind farm for a ridge that includes Colonel Holman Mountain is planned for 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Dirigo High School.
Dan McKay, one of the organizers for the event, confirmed that Tom Carroll of Patriot Renewables LLC, local physician Dr. Albert Aniel, Roxbury summer resident Steve Thurston of Vermont and local businessman Tom Powell will sit on the panel.
Townspeople enacted a six-month moratorium on the development of wind farms soon after the Quincy, Mass., company submitted a tentative plan to construct eight to 20 wind turbines on privately owned land in Dixfield.
During the moratorium, which can be extended another six months, an ad hoc committee will devise regulations for wind farm development. Those regulations will be acted on by voters sometime next year.
Patriot Renewables is also in the early stages of planning wind farm projects in Woodstock and Carthage.
The company plans to open a storefront in the former Holmes Market building on Main Street, Dixfield, within the next few days. Carroll will staff the informational space several days a week to answer questions from residents. He will also have exhibits on display of the company's plan.

almost forgot there is several hundred acres of land that the town voted to protect from development which is being planned on having windmills built on. Now this land was voted by the people of Carthage to protect and since there was no town meeting the selectmen decided to allow the windmills to be built on it.
To be you can have the windmills. but just so you know a little bit more about them. I am a resident of carthage and I am opposed to these windmills. The question I ask is if the windmills are so great then why are they playing dirty pool to put them up. Let me explain. The head town selectman wants the windmills and will do anything for them. As I write this post I am still waiting for the town meeting for 2009. Normally the town meeting is held on super bowl sunday (I hate that but it is easy to remember when it is) but this year is was cancelled and never rescheduled. With no town meeting there was no budget commitee meeting to plan the budget (with no town warrent no budget). The town is running on 2008 budget and rules. Also one of the three selectmen's term is up. Meaning the election of that selectman was to be held at the town meeting but since there was no town meeting there was no election. But dont worry fokes since the town is running on 2008 budget and rules the selectman is still casting is votes and being paid without being elected(the selectman is well liked and does a good job he would have been elected again). Why is all this happening its because the head town selectman wants the windmills and knows if the town meets in a large number (lets say at a town meeting) we would go to the hills with torches and pitchforks (not real but you get my meaning).
Final thought is this I live in the area where the Dixfield and Carthage windmills are going up. the two mountains the windmills are going on are at each side of the same valley. Think about you are driving up route 2 looking at the beatiful mountian side and then you turn into windtunnel valley formly know as mystic valley.
Please come to SOUTH Waterford ,me we have several places Ideal for wind mills...
