Liquor license

Issue: New owners of Timmy Turner's Pizzeria are seeking to acquire a liquor license for the restaurant.

The scoop: The board heard from Harrington Ventures Inc. of Greene and the public about the liquor license request so that the restaurant could serve beer and wine to its patrons.

Up next: An application, signed by the board, was submitted to the Department of Public Safety Liquor Licensing and Inspection Division.

Bandstand

Issue: A bandstand on the campus of Regional School Unit 52 in Turner Center, in memory of local musician Mavis Varney, was proposed.

The scoop: Information provided by James Talbot about Paula Varney Anderson's plans for the bandstand was reviewed by selectmen. The board agreed to endorse the request and is further willing to maintain, insure and provide electricity to the structure.

Up next: The plan will be taken before the school board for approval.

Repairs

Issue: The fire and rescue barn on General Turner Hill Road was toured by selectmen to inspect areas of concern.

The scoop: The board discussed the 6 p.m. site visit where the need for ceiling repair, clearing brush at the back of the building, a roof inspection and reconditioning of the meeting room floor were noted.

Up next: The board authorized the necessary repairs.

Fire Department equipment

Issue: Some of the equipment used by the Fire Department needs to be replaced.

The scoop: Fire Chief Mike Arsenault requested the release of $2,000 from the equipment reserve account for the purchase of eight used Scott Air-Pak bottles.

Building removal

Issue: The town recently acquired the land and building next to the Town Office and is seeking to have the building removed.

The scoop: The building had been used as a
cabinetmaker's shop, a furniture repair shop and a blacksmith shop, and has some
historical value.

Up next: Town Manager Eva Leavitt will place an ad requesting suggestions for removal and preservation of the 20- by 40-foot building constructed in 1850.
