Council election results

Editor's note: The results of the Auburn and Lewiston City Council elections were reported in Wednesday's edition in chart form. At readers' request, below is a summary of those results.

Lewiston

City Councilor Denis Theriault, who unseated former Councilor Ron Jean in 2007, was unseated by Jean Tuesday in Ward 4 voting. Jean, who served on the council from 1999 to 2007, got 1,064 votes to Theriault's 801 votes.

In Ward 1, John Butler, a 16-year member of the Lewiston School Committee, was elected with 584 votes, followed by 450 votes for Stanley Pelletier, vice chairman of the Lewiston Democratic Committee, and 333 votes for political newcomer Douglas Stone.

In Ward 2, former Councilor Renee Bernier was returned to office with 958 votes, followed by 771 votes for Donald D'Auteuil, 455 votes for Doreen Christ and 127 votes for Stan MacIsaac, who had withdrawn from the race.

In Ward 3, uncontested incumbent Larry Poulin earned 962 votes. In Ward 5, uncontested incumbent Tina Bailey earned 816 votes.

In Ward 6, Mark Cayer was elected with 1,402 votes to 517 for David Dunn. And in Ward 7, uncontested candidate Stephen Morgan earned 1,562 votes.

Auburn

Former City Councilor Belinda Gerry unseated incumbent Councilor Bob Mennealy, earning the at-large council seat with 3,529 votes to Mennealy's 2,557 votes. In that same race, former Councilor Eric Samson earned 3,104 votes; political newcomers Gary Baillargeon and Kenneth Bellefleur got 2,071 and 1,880 votes, respectively.

In Ward 1, incumbent Mike Farrell retained his seat with 988 votes, besting newcomer Richard Francoeur's 506 votes.

Incumbent Councilors Robert Hayes and Dan Herrick were not challenged for their seats, and were re-elected.
