Free events offered for veterans
GRAY — The Maine Wildlife Park will offer free admission to veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 11. That's also the day the park will close for the season.
The Maine Wildlife Park has more than 30 species of native wildlife on display, plus wildlife gardens, nature trails, and other interactive exhibits and displays. The park will be open Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Regular admission to the park is free for ages 3 and under; $5 for ages 5 to 12; $7 for adults; and $5 for seniors. Groups of 15 or more pay $3.50 per person.
AUBURN — Ingersoll Arena will offer free ice skating for veterans from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
To receive this complimentary pass, veterans must show some form of documentation that they have served or are currently serving. A discount of $1 per person will be offered to each family member accompanied by a veteran. Otherwise, public skate prices are $4 for adults and $3 for students.

AUGUSTA — The Maine Military Family Assistance Center offers free assistance to families of deployed soldiers, matching families with volunteers skilled in such things as computer maintenance repair, HVAC, tax preparation and financial planning, baby-sitting and child care, yard work and household chores, including splitting wood and plowing snow.
The center also has volunteers able to help with transportation, legal assistance and crisis management.
The center, at 22 Armory St., screens volunteers before matching them with families of deployed soldiers. If interested in volunteering, or if you are a family member of a deployed soldier, contact Kerry Birmingham at the Center, 430-5784, for more information.
