Film 'The Way We Get By' showing at CMCC

AUBURN — The award-winning documentary film "The Way We Get By" will be presented at Central Maine Community College as part of a weeklong observance of National Veterans Awareness Week.

"The Way We Get By" is a story about troop greeters, a group of senior citizens, who gathered daily at the Bangor International Airport to thank American soldiers departing and returning from Iraq.

But the film quickly turns into a moving, unsettling and compassionate story about aging, loneliness, war and mortality. "The Way We Get By" celebrates three unsung heroes who share their love with strangers who need and deserve it.

The film will be shown free of charge and open to the public on three different days and times: from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, at the Jalbert Lecture Hall; from 11:15 to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Kirk Hall Auditorium; and from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Jalbert Lecture Hall.

The film showings are being sponsored by CMCC Student Senate, the Nursing Association and Veterans Club. More information about the film is available online at www.TheWayWeGetByMovie.com

Other activities to observe Veterans Day at the college include a visit by the "Vet Mobile," a Veterans Administration mobile office, on Monday, and a flag raising ceremony Tuesday at 1 p.m. In addition, a display of memorabilia and uniforms from all military branches will be exhibited this week across from the campus bookstore.
