NEW SHARON — Two Starks residents were arrested Friday on charges of selling illegal drugs in New Sharon.
Kirt Newton, 39, and Dawn Steuber, 38, both of Starks, were arrested after Maine Drug Enforcement Agents set up a surveillance on Newton, MDEA Supervisor Gerry Baril said Monday.
They had suspected Newton of "diverting his prescription narcotics," Baril said and while watching him they witnessed him engaging in a drug action while parked at the Little League baseball field on Route 134 in New Sharon.
He was selling and had $1,000 worth of pills in his car, Baril said.
A car following Newton, driven by his girlfriend, Steuber, was also stopped, searched and she was arrested after agents found another $4,800 of OxyContin and about $3,000 to $4,000 worth of Oxycodone in the car, Baril said.
Newton was in violation of his probation and faces that charge also, Baril said.
