"What kind of precedent do you think the same sex marriage scheme would be setting for future generations?"
What are you so fearful of?
Marc Mutty from Stand for Marriage Maine says a threatening voicemail message was discovered Monday morning at campaign headquarters in which a female caller said, "You will be dead. Maybe not today, not tomorrow. But soon you'll dead." Police in Yarmouth are investigating.
Augusta police say a separate voicemail threat targeted Michael Heath, former leader of the Christian Civic League of Maine and its successor, the Maine Family Policy Council. Heath wasn't actively involved in the gay marriage campaign, but he fought against a gay rights law in campaigns in 1998, 2000 and 2005.
The incident following voters' decision last week to scuttle Maine's gay marriage law. Mutty says the campaign is taking the threats seriously.

Maine allows 16yo to marry, NH 14yo and 13yo can marry. As far as poligamy, just go to Utah. Why are you using these examples to discriminate against homosexuals?
Even domesticated animals have homosexual tendencies but engaging in those acts are more about aggression than sex. In the civilized world of people, I wouldn't consider it natural to flout those tendencies or expect that laws will be enacted to promote the alternate lifestyle that these people have chosen. The gays blame their deviation from customary and traditional relationships on their genetic makeup. I tend to think it is a hormonal/chemical inbalance (btw, the Nazi's did too), if a person is bipolar don't they get treatment? I also think it is an alternative choice for those with rebellious tendencies, those who go out of their way to be different. Violence can be a genetic trait, does this make someone less responsible for the choices they make? Should the laws be changed to account for that? I think if a homosexual wants to commit to their lifestyle choice by having a sex change then they should be allowed to marry. I personally think it is important that Mr. and Mrs. be a male and female. This community has already gained the right to "significant other" benefits, the right to adopt, etc., why not leave it at that?? If they have all the rights except a marriage certificate what is the big deal?? No prenuptual? Get a lawyer and sign a contract.
Geez, what will all this do to evolution?? Will the hetorosexuals evolve into something with both sets of "tools" in the next millenium?
Oh, get over yourself. Homosexuals have always existed and will continue to exist.
You lost. Get over it.
I tend to think it is a hormonal/chemical inbalance...if a person is bipolar don't they get treatment?
Comparing mental illness to homosexuality? Just curious where you obtained your medical degree from Dr.
Hey Mainegal, You just compared same sex marriage to child molestation. Thats how I know your argument is crap.
Let me use some of your logic.
You think Homosexuality is wrong
Hitler though Homosexuality was wrong(as wrong as being Jewish)
Since Hitler and you agree, you must be a Nazi
I have always been tolerant of gay people, live and let live. I felt so long as they didn't push they're lifestyle onto others that they should be left alone. Now they are pushing their lifestyle and beliefs onto others, which I feel is unacceptable. Their lifestyle is a choice, many laws have been amended to give them the rights they feel they need with the exception of marriage. I feel same sex marriage is wrong, I feel if this were allowed it wouldn't be many years before cousins and siblings would find it their right to be married. These laws set some moral boundaries, I think crossing these boundaries will lead to some serious morality issues years down the road. There are many people with identity issues out there but it is not their "right" to act upon them. Many predators would say their behavior pattern is one they were born with but I would hate to see them have the rights to act upon their urges. A gay person says they can't have fulfilling sex with someone of the opposite sex so we should change the laws? A child molester cannot have fulfilling sex with an adult, a rapist cannot have fulfilling sex without violence, will we be changing the laws for these people too?
"I have always been tolerant of gay people, live and let live. I felt so long as they didn't push they're lifestyle onto others that they should be left alone. Now they are pushing their lifestyle and beliefs onto others, which I feel is unacceptable."
Yet you are pushing your beliefs onto others and this is acceptable? Why not "live and let live" your own lifestyle-whether it is homosexual, heterosexual or asexual.
"A gay person says they can't have fulfilling sex with someone of the opposite sex so we should change the laws? A child molester cannot have fulfilling sex with an adult, a rapist cannot have fulfilling sex without violence, will we be changing the laws for these people too?"
Please try to look at the entire individual. Do you lust over every heterosexual man and think about having sex with them? When you encounter a member of the opposite sex on the street do you automatically think sexual thoughts about them? There is more to homosexuality than their sexual activity. As for child molesters and rapists: Their sexual acts are violating the laws. There is not consensual sex between a child molester and their victim or a rapist and their victim. Your statement is ludicrous.
Pushing their lifestyle and beliefs onto others??? Its not like G/L/T people go around hitting on every straight person-THAT would be pushing their lifestyle and beliefs onto others. I think a majority respect other people's opinion, when really they shouldn't have to answer to anyone. Being G/L/T has nothing to do with offenders or cousins/siblings getting married. As far as identity 'issues' and it not being their 'right' to act upon them(?) who has ANY say in what someone else feels for another person or when they are growing up scared and confused, lost, suicidal-because they don't know why they are different. Who says its their own 'right' or not. If someone was telling another person what to do-or telling me what to do, how to do it-I sure as heck wouldn't be listening. We are our own people. No one has the right to dictate how G/L/T live THEIR life. I think this comment is ignorance at its best.
Since the purpose of the Yes on 1 campaign is to force gays back into the closet and to return Maine to the situation prior to the US Supreme Courts decision on sodomy when gays could be imprisoned and killed with impunity, is any one suprised that they might make false charges to the press without first informing the police.
So this matter must be fully investigated first.

Dan is not a bigot, he just hates cops and anybody that does not go along with his twisted, liberal bias.
Gil, the author of your quote, Pirate. Whould his first name be Butt?
Sorry, I just had to.
Gil says: "So typical of the libs."
What an idiotic and ignorant statement. Statements like that, intended to inflame the issue convince me all the more that the callers were Yes on 1 supporters seeking to stir the pot in an attempt to further erode civil rights. Far fetched, you say? Not in the least. This is a typical right-wing tactic employed by those who seek to instill fear in the population in order to get their way.
So typical of the libs. They lose at their attempt to have the legislature force their agenda on the people of this state and the first thing they do is threaten death to those who dared to speak out against them. Then, the myrmidons on this site start out with an attempt to blame i on the Yes voters. Not saying i definitely wasn't, but what would they stand to gain? Sorry libs, you lost, you can't understand how, and the first reaction is a hate filled one. Says so much.
"Reasoning with a liberal is like trying to pick up a turd by the clean end. " Pirate
Gil, both sides have nuts. To assume this is typical behavior is stupid.
Whether they are true or not, I'll shed as many tears for him as I would for David Duke.

When they say threats I'm not sure I would be extremely frightened by a gay women, I mean what is she going to do kill his wardrobe? Maybe lick him into uncontrollable laughter? Get real! You Lost No one wants this crap in public or schools lets clean it up and get back to moral high ground like god meant it to be one man and one woman ie: Adam and Eve! Procreation is not possible with two of the same sex so is that even an option, I think Not!
Hey Jayman, how far does your education go? Ever taken a biology class? Homosexual behavior has been documented in THOUSANDS of species! It's not just humans there buddy. The goal in life is not to procreate, it is to LIVE. I feel bad for simpletons like you. Your education stops at the Bible. Fooooooool. At least admit that you are grossed out by gays, don't try and throw big words like procreation around.
“I fully realize that a person who stands for what I stand for, an activist, a gay activist, becomes the target or the potential target for a person who is insecure, terrified, afraid, or very disturbed with themselves.”
'The goal in life is not to procreate, it is to LIVE.'
Without procreation there is no life and the species dies. If the goal is to live then homosexuality in all species is against nature.
Sorry bigfish, gotta throw the BS flag on ya there. Animals who turn to homosexuality do so as a result of a shortage of the opposite sex. Some animals can actually change their sex too make up for this lack, as a means to procreate. Did you think that the animal kingdom was doing this so they could go clubbing?
"Reasoning with a liberal is like trying to pick up a turd by the clean end. " Pirate
True but i am sure if you look into the THOUSANDS of species that have homosexual behavior you will find they do it for sexual pleasure not for love so are making the argument that homosexuals are normal in the animal kingdom or that homosexuals are just together for the sex and love has nothing to do with it. Also what is your education level.
Yeah of course some do it for sex, but others are real partners. They stay with each other in a monogamous relationship for their entire lifetimes. Look it up, it has everything to do with love.
Oh and my education is a couple years of college, but back off, I'm only a couple years out of high school. Jeesh.
bigfish I am just showing that just because someone is against ssm doesn't mean they are uneducated. and good luck in college
Pleasure, security, social rank and status.... wow, the same reason most humans have sex. The question comes in if you are looking at humans as a biological creature, or some special, created, caressed, puppies and unicorns and rainbows forever, being made by I Dream of Genie blinking REAL hard. The fact is, you hold onto your myths so hard it's cutting off circulation to your brains.

This is awesome, they'll probably go through with it too, I'm not sure if I'll mind, but I do know they are definitely heading to Hell.
Wow ///My first reaction, my gut response, is that these alledged calls are plants by the Yes On 1 people to further their persecution of homosexuals./// gdls1...is the perfect name for you!
I would have to say the same gdls1.
HOWEVER-if this is proven to be true, I think that its too bad that it would result in threats. That would be pretty damn low. Marc Mutty may sound pretty ignorant BUT hes a person. No matter if I disagree with him or not-no one deserves to have death threats.
Technically, if it is proven that the threats were motivated because of bias against the alleged victims sexual orientation (heterosexual), rather than say their political views or affiliation, it would appear to be covered under the enhanced sentencing provisions of the so called "hate crime" law. But I'm guessing if it did happen, it was the latter and not the the former.
The only question I ask is if the person is caught will they be charged with a hate crime or just harassment
Why on earth would this be a hate crime? Your side won, you're in the majority. Get back to reason, you are guilty of hate.
The reason why this could be a hate crime(I use the word could because it is unclear the suspects motive) is because the crime might have been committed only the sole purpose of his belief. the fact that the victim is in the majority has nothing to do with the fact.
It would could be a hate crime because they are attacking him because of his religious beliefs. Don't think just leaving a threatening message would be a hate crime.
In my entire life I have never met anyone who hated someone because they are straight. I suppose it could happen, but it would be a first.
Dan, you constantly spew hatred at those who were opposed to the gay marriage law, going so far as to label them "breeders". Does hypocrisy go hand in hand with a short memory?

My first reaction, my gut response, is that these alledged calls are plants by the Yes On 1 people to further their persecution of homosexuals.
Maybe you should also say "alledged persecution of homosexuals."

Polygamy and child marriage
Polygamy and child marriage is acceptable and traditional in some countries. Do you think laws should be enacted for people from those countries who become US citizens to make this different lifestyle legal in our country? What kind of precedent do you think the same sex marriage scheme would be setting for future generations?
