Whatever the church says

It's Catholics vs. Protestants. When Michael Heath ran his campaign denying homosexuals the right to civil unions in Maine, the Catholic Church did nothing. This time around, the Catholic Church took full control, showing the Protestants that it could do it alone. A full-page ad of Protestant ministers and Jewish rabbis, urging Mainers to vote no on Question 1, went unnoticed.

Why? Because the most powerful church in the world flexed its muscles.

Catholics are not encouraged to think for themselves. They must obey, or suffer the consequences. For example, Pamella Beliveau lost her position as lay minister because the bishop disapproved of her guest column (Oct. 18) urging the public to vote no on Question 1.

It is time for government officials to make it a law rejecting the word "marriage," and replace it with civil union on all government-issued licenses.

Yes, the people have spoken, with 85 percent — I repeat — 85 percent of the world's population being heterosexual. Only Lady Justice can and must stand up for the 15 percent who are different from the norm.

Congratulations to those who voted yes on Question 1. Goliath has defeated David.

Donald now you are being

Donald now you are being silly.
Because of this and several other efforts by the Catholic Church leadership to interfere in secular, political matters their tax exempt status is being investigated by the IRS. I hope its revoked. There must be consequences when folks violate the law.

Pamela Beliveau lost her

Pamela Beliveau lost her position because she spoke out against her EMPLOYERS mission statement. Think about it; if you worked for LL Bean and wrote a public letter recommending the sleeping bags at Cabela's over LL Bean, doncha think there'd be repercussions? I think so...
