Hearing on grant applications set
LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen will hold a public hearing Monday on applications for two Community Development Block Grants targeting sewer improvements and road enhancements.
The hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Town Office.
One of the applications is through the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development and is worth up to $500,000 for public infrastructure. If received, it would help fund installation of new sewer lines on Main Street from Bridge Street to the Jay line. The town has already been awarded a U.S. Department of Agriculture loan and that money would be used as a match on the block grant.
The second application is for a Community Enterprise Grant worth up to $150,000 directed at adding amenities on Main Street such as pedestrian lighting.
Town Manager Jim Chaousis informed selectmen at their Nov. 2 meeting that he has become certified to administer the grants.
The town would do the Main Street project in conjunction with the Maine Department of Transportation's reconstruction of about 1.1 mile of Route 4, also known as Main Street in Jay and Livermore Falls. Jay Sewer Department and the Livermore Falls Water District are planning upgrades during construction.
