DIXFIELD — Two more local men have been arrested on felony aggravated assault charges related to an incident that left a Peru man badly beaten on Oct. 28.
Dixfield police Sgt. Jeff Howe said John J. Vargas, 34, of Dixfield, and Shawn Noyes, 33, of Brian Street, Dixfield, turned themselves in to the Oxford County Sheriff's Office on Nov. 3. They were released on an unspecified amount of bail, and are scheduled to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Dec. 17.
Howe said a warrant for the arrest of another man on the same charges related to the incident is expected to be issued soon.
Police previously arrested David J. Gallant, 34, of Parker Street, Mexico, and David Wing, 34, of Brian Street, Dixfield, at Noyes' home. The assault took place inside Noyes' home on Oct. 28, but was not reported until Oct. 30. The victim was beaten with fists and feet, and suffered fractures to an eye socket and sinus cavity, lost at least one tooth, and sustained other injuries, according to Howe.
In other police news, a vehicle driven by Alison Gamache, 40, of Coburn Avenue, Dixfield, struck a deer at 7 a.m. Nov. 9 on Route 2. The deer had to be killed. Gamache's 2002 Mitsubishi sports utility vehicle sustained extensive damage.
Police said Dale Korhonen, owner of Dixfield Storage on Main Street, reported the theft of more than a $1,000 in coins at 5:19 p.m. Nov. 2. It occurred sometime during the previous 24 hours. Someone broke the padlock to the storage building to gain entrance. Police have several suspects.
