AUGUSTA (AP) — Two more deaths have been linked to the swine flu in Maine, bringing the total to five deaths since August.

State officials announced the deaths Saturday. One was a Hancock County resident between the ages of 25 and 50. The other was over age 65. Officials said both died last week. Both had the H1NI flu and underlying conditions. Officials said no additional information would be released to protect their privacy.

Officials also said a Kennebec County long-term care facility is experiencing a flu outbreak. The facility has been closed to visitors and all staff and residents are being placed on antiviral medicines, such as Tamiflu, from the state's stockpile. The facility was not identified.

I thought you were supposed

I thought you were supposed to stay away from the ER and your doctor's office if you think you have H1N1. Call them on the phone and let THEM tell you where you should present your contagious self!

yeah right's picture

they need to at least tell

they need to at least tell where that place is, for God's sake.

I understand the right to

I understand the right to privacy of the deceased and their families and certainly it is not necessary to give out information such as name, address or even the date of death. However, to give information such as the underlyong condition would not violate privacy as it would not identify the deceased but would be very helpful in advising and educating others who may have the same or a similar condition to seek prompted medical attention if feeling ill when thy normally would not. That was resently the case in my family. A family member with asthma that is normally very well controlled suddenly had intense difficulty that was followed 24 hours later by a fever. Normally that person would not have gone to the doctor but used a preestablished protical but for recently having read an online article by another asthma suffer who had swine, she immediatly went to the emergency room. Without that article she would not have known that swine replicates in the lungs which are already "unhappy" in an asthmatic and the added stress can quickly be fatal. Tamiflu and most important for the asmatic prednisone is prescribed. The CDCmust start educating us on these underlying conditions that many of us live with every day and have just grown accustomed to compensating for as it seems with swine our established protocol is not the way to go and can be fatal.
If we could only return to common sense...
