Woman bitten at Hebron accident scene

HEBRON — A Norway woman was bitten by an injured dog after she stopped to assist the animal and the driver who hit it on Route 119 late Thursday afternoon, Oxford County Deputy William Nelson said.

April Dudley, 17, of 6 Ricker Road suffered bites to her hand and was treated by the dog's owner, Michelle Greenlaw, 35, of 9 Hill Drive in Hebron, Nelson said.

The incident occurred at about 4:50 p.m. near Merrill Hill Road as Heather Mann, 31, of 794 Riverside Drive in Auburn was driving her 2005 Chevrolet Blazer east on the highway, the deputy said. The 8-month-old Husky-type dog had run from its home 50 yards away into the highway, he said.

"The dog just got out and got in the road," he said.

After being hit and injured, the dog "was being aggressive toward people," Nelson said. It bit Dudley when she stopped to help. "It tore up her fingers a bit."

By the time Nelson arrived, the dog had died from its injuries. Animal Control Officer Robert Larrabee of Oxford took the animal for rabies testing, as required when someone is bitten, Nelson said.
