Having been at Gould Academy for five years, the camp has reached the point where it requires a larger campus with additional needs that can be fulfilled by Unity College, an environmental college located on 225 wooded acres of farmland overlooking Unity Pond.
Maine Arts Camp Director Rick Mades said the move was carefully researched.
"We visited six schools and just felt at home at Unity College," said Mades. "The feeling was intangible. It felt like this was the place our camp belonged. We are very excited to move to the next step in the growth of our camp."
The philosophy of the camp will remain the same, with the mission to provide a non-competitive, caring environment in which children can explore and enjoy a balance of fine and performing arts, enrichment activities and technology and individual/lifetime sports as part of a small, inclusive community. It is a non-traditional camp geared toward bright and creative children and offering no team sports. Campers create their own schedules, choosing from more than 60 activities.
Maine Arts Camp (formerly Bethel Camp for the Arts) is an overnight camp offering two- or four-week sessions for ages 8 to 15. The program focuses on visual and performing arts, technology and individual/lifetime sports. For more information, visit www.maineartscamp.com or call (561) 865-4330.
