BANGOR, Maine (AP) — The Maine Air National Guard's 101st Air Refueling Wing has a new commander.

Col. John L. D'Errico assumed command over the weekend from Brig. Gen. Stephen Atkinson, who led the KC-135 refueling wing for four years.

Maj. Gen. John Libby, Maine's adjutant general, says the new commander will be busy. He says ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have created the "greatest operational tempo we've seen since World War II."

KC-135 tankers from Bangor and from New Hampshire's Pease Air National Guard Base participate in refueling military aircraft en route or returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

As for Atkinson, he now assumes the position of chief of staff at Maine Air National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Augusta.
