A lack of support

I am a veteran and a lifelong resident of Lewiston. I attended the Veterans Memorial on Nov. 11 at the Lewiston Armory and wish to thank all who attended, especially the Edward Little High School band, dressed in full uniform, to honor our veterans, alive and gone.

Unfortunately, the Lewiston High School band must have had a more pressing engagement, which may be why they did not attend. Or, maybe they were saving their uniforms for the marching band competitions.

Also, I noticed, as did many others, that the city of Auburn was represented on stage by its mayor, but the chair that was for the Lewiston mayor or his representative remained empty.

I heard a few years ago that the Twin Cities have more veterans than any other city in the state of Maine (I assume it is true). So why the lack of support for the veterans? There was no lack of city officials at the polls on Nov. 3.

Appears there was a lack of

Appears there was a lack of communication. The band teacher or advisor should have made inquiries to ascertain why the band was not invited, was it deliberate or unintentional.

Are you really that

Are you really that ignorant? THERE IS NO MARCHING BAND!! How many times did that need to be said in response to this chuckle heads letter before you understand that? No band, no invite. And I thought Lil was stupid.

Hello There. My name is

Hello There.

My name is Chris Belanger and I am also part of Lewiston High School's Band. First off, thank you for thinking of the Lewiston High School Band. But as Justin said earlier, we were not invited to this event. We were ready to be asked. We waited till the last poosible minute until we decided to just let it go. We don't have a marching band at this point in time. But that isn't the point. Please before you say something, please get some facts straight. Please do not assume something. Again we would have loved to be there but we we just never got that call to be there.

Sorry for what I wrote but we don't deserve what you wrote about us.

Thanks,

Chris Belanger

Maybe there would have been

Maybe there would have been more support if the event was announced or posted... everyone is on the dang computer nowadays. Not only that, people have become more concerned about their own lives they don't give a doodle. That is sad to say-but it is the truth. I would say that making a snide comment on LHS was not called for. Its not the students fault.

Question answered. Mr.

Question answered. Mr. Raymond, like several of the regular posters on these articles, needs to do a little research before setting pen to paper. Good job with the answers.

Exactly suelt1973. I myself

Exactly suelt1973. I myself am a member of the Lewiston High School Choir Department and know several of my classmates are members of the Concert Band of Lewiston High School. We look forward to this even every year because we all know how important it is that we respect and honor our veterans, and for the past year, LHS Concert Band and Chamber Singers have been present for the Memorial at the Armory. We aren't at the parade only because we unfortunately do not have a marching band at our school. However this year we did not recieve the invite or information that we usually recieve every year from the organizers of the Veterans Memorial and hence did not go on the 11th. Speaking for the Lewiston High School Music Department, we would have loved to have gotten the chance to honor our veterans like EL did, however, we were not invited or given any information. Please check your facts before making an assumption that with offend a large amount of hardworking students at LHS.

Hi there. I would just like

Hi there.
I would just like to leave a message informing you that, as a member of the Lewiston High School concert band, (and just so you know, we do not have a marching band,) we were never asked or even informed to play at Veteran's day. We even prepared an entire piece assuming we would be participating, however we were never invited. We prepared up until two days before Veterans day. Please don't assume we "had a more pressing engagement", we were planning on it for approximately a month.

Furthermore, speaking for myself, I have the greatest respect and appreciation for our veterans. I have two grandfather who are/were veterans, and I am extremely proud of them. I also would like to thank you very much for your service.

I just wanted to give you the reason why we were not there, because I know we would have loved to participate, if the city had invited us. I'm sorry if this sounded rude, or disrespectful, I just want to stick up for our program, because we were not at fault.

Thank you.
~Justin Fortier

I remember when I was in the

I remember when I was in the LHS marching band. The greatest honor was being in the veteran's day parade, and continuing a tradition to honor our troops. We also had the Maine State parade, the Old Port Festival parade, and a few football games. Weekend compititions were drum and bugle style, with heavy compitition, staging effects and costumes, judges from Mass., real place trophies (not the everyone gets a trophy just for showing up kind), and over 20 bands from across the state broken up into 4 divisions based on band size. Through fundraisers, we paid our own fees and transportation. That was 12 years ago. Thats all gone now.

Mr. Raymond, did you think

Mr. Raymond, did you think to call Lewiston High School and ask why their band was not present, before you critized them. Lewiston High School does not have a marching band. They didn't have one last year and the probably won't next year. Lewiston students who want to be in band have joined the Leavitt Area High School Band.
