I would like to apologize for my comment that was cited in the Sun Journal editorial of Nov. 13. I certainly do not believe that Auburn parents are "better" parents than Lewiston parents. It was an offensive statement which I deeply regret. I was trying to show the absurdity of the Sun Journal's claims about absenteeism by suggesting an equally absurd reason. The statement has rightly blown up in my face and I take full responsibility.
Once again, I do apologize for the offensive statement and any offense I have created. I also regret that my statement has obscured the real story here — the great collaborative work by both school departments in addressing the H1N1 challenge.

Mr. Das,
If the school systems had truly collaborated The flu shot clinics would have run as smoothly in both cities. Lewiston has been done for nearly a month. Auburn just finished 30 minutes ago. My entire family became ill. One of my children was hospitalized. One developed pneumonia. After caring for them I became ill and now have developed pneumonia as well. We estimate that this could have cost our family over $10,000. Thankful my spouse and family is covered under my Lewiston School insurance!

Thank you for demonstrating real moral character to students, parents, and polititions. The popular way to "appologize" is to say "sorry, but...." and make your mistake someone else's fault.
By taking responsibility for a mistake, you show that you have great moral compass for directing Auburn's youth.
It is best to admit a mistake and try to restore honor.
David, Thank you for your sincere apology. I don't know you but I know of you and I suspected (hoped) that what you wrote was part of an ill-formed way of making a point. This shows great character and Auburn should be proud to have you as an elected official.

Once again the Sun Journals' one-sided reporting prevails. Taking a statement and presenting it in the context that best suites the tone they want to set. Thank you for targeting Auburn Schools and David Das. They certainly deserve your scrutiny and disdain.
