AUGUSTA — Mary Rolerson Hebert, a Lewiston native who teaches in Kennebunk, was recently named the Outstanding Educator of the Year by the Maine Association for Middle Level Education.
Hebert grew up in Lewiston and attended Pettingill, Montello and Lewiston High schools. She teaches seventh grade language arts at the Middle School of the Kennebunks, and has worked in the district for 23 years.
The honor was announced at the association's annual conference, where she was presented with the 2009 Janet Nesin-Reynolds Outstanding Educator Award. The award is given each year to one middle level teacher in Maine.
According to the association, Hebert was given the award for many reasons, among them her many skills, her commitment to her students and her "reputation in our district for sharing the results of her work in such a way that other teachers are convinced to emulate and adopt her strategies and instructional designs."
