Bernard W "Sonny". Hathaway, Jr.:

LEEDS — Bernard W. "Sonny" Hathaway Jr., 73, of Church Hill Road, Leeds, died Sunday, Nov. 15, at his home.

He was born May 15, 1936, in Lewiston, the son of Bernard W. Sr. and Alice Robinson Hathaway. He attended Turner schools and graduated from Leavitt Institute in 1954. While attending high school, he played on the football, basketball and baseball teams. In August of this year, Bernard attended his 55th class reunion.

Sonny was a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962. While in the service, he attended weather school in Lakehurst, N.J., and the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Jacksonville, Fla.

On Jan. 6, 1967, he married Lois A. Berry, of North Turner. Bernard began working at International Paper's Androscoggin Mill in 1968, where he was a waste treatment operator until retiring in 2001.

He jogged daily, and played tennis until 2004. To maintain his healthy lifestyle, he and Lois enjoyed walking around their neighborhood, regardless of the weather. He loved music, particularly folk and classical, and could always be heard humming and singing a tune.

He is survived by his wife, Lois of Leeds; three daughters, Karen Hathaway and her fiancé, Fred Davis, of Turner, Jennifer Snyder, of San Diego, and Melinda Blair and her husband, JD, of Auburn; a sister, Barbara Brown of Wethersfield, Conn.; grandchildren, Kirra, Acacia, James Snyder and Addison K. Blair, and another grandson is due in February; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Eva Mae.
