CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A Waterville man died Tuesday night at a Bangor hospital from injuries he received in a motorcycle accident earlier in the day, police Chief Scott Nichols said Wednesday.
Terry Giguere, 64, and two friends, Guy Russell, 57, and Ray McGee, 65, all of Waterville and riding on motorcycles, were doing a loop around Franklin County, Nichols said. They had gone up Route 4 to Rangeley and cut across to Stratton and were traveling back on Route 27 when Russell and McGee noticed that Giguere was no longer behind them, he said.
Giguere and his 1983 Honda Gold Wing had gone off the road while traveling through the the S-turns into an embankment south of the Sugarloaf resort, Nichols said. The accident happened about 1 p.m.
Giguere was not wearing a helmet and suffered some head trauma, he said. He was taken by NorthStar Emergency Medical Services ambulance to the Carrabassett Valley Airport and flown by medical helicopter to a Bangor hospital.
Sgt. Randy Walker is investigating the accident. Speed does not appear to be a factor, Nichols said.
Local firefighters assisted at the scene.
